When the nobleman tried to send Nekro out into the fields Jakobie insisted that Nekro must help him with his studies so Nekro was taught how to read and write, the known histories and sciences, and the arts of war and chivalry. One day the King of the Arcadia calls all of his knights to march with him against his uncle the Duke of Fishers who had tried to murder him. Jakobie takes Nekro with him as his arms bearer and they ride to join their king. The armies of the king and the duke meet upon the fields of Giest. The fighting was intense and it looked like the king's army was winning when the traitorous duke unleashed a terrifying sorcery which killed many of the king's brave knights and even injured the king himself. Seeing their king in danger, Jakobie and Nekro ran to his rescue. They fought gallantly and slew the duke and his sorcerers. When the battle was done, the king named Jakobie as a prince of the realm and made Nekro a free-man. Despite the fame Nekro had won and the titles offered him, his curiosity of the world made him bid fare-well to the king and his friend. And he joined a troupe of jesters to travel the realms with. Eventually he left the troupe to join the Guild of Fools, but he did not stay long in their halls. He traveled far and wide till he found a place of constant fog. With a shrug and a laugh he danced into the fog. After two days of travel the fog began to lift and he saw an old man sitting of the side of the road which said to him, "Welcome to Mittlemarch, the Land between the Lands."
