As she wondered deeper into the woods, the fog began to thicken. Keyna had not eaten or drank a drop of water in almost two days. As she started to tire from the journey, her mind began to wonder back to her childhood. Her mother and father tended to a farm just outside of a French village. They were not rich folk, but they were blessed in their simple life. One day a fair-haired daughter was born to them and they knew she would be special).
The years began to pass as their young daughter began to grow. Keyna was a very curious girl. She loved to roam the countryside looking for bright and unique flowers. Sometimes she would just lie in the field soaking in the brightness and smells of the outdoors. She had a way of recreating sites from her memory on canvas. Every day she would help her mother prepare the meals for the day. In the evening her family would sit by the fire and sing together.
Those times seem so very long ago. Quickly Keyna becomes aware of her surroundings again and the fog is even thicker than before. So thick in fact that it’s hard to breathe. Slowly she looses her footing and falls to the ground where her trusty companion Fritz, the warrior pug, is lying. Keyna tries to awaken him, but it seems as though he is in a deep sleep. She tries to pick him up so they can continue their journey, but Keyna is just too weak. Her breaths become shorter and she feels as though the earth is spinning. Keyna’s head slowly touches the earth and she falls asleep.
Thoughts of the night her parents were taken quickly rush to her dreams. She was a girl of ten and the villagers were being taken to the castle for treasonous acts. At least that is what the soldiers would tell the inquiring families. One night as her family lay in their beds, soldiers rushed into their home. Keyna’s mother had told her to hide if soldiers were ever to raid their home, so she did. Had she known she would never see her parents again, she would have stayed in the open and fought for her parents.
Keyna was all alone and had no one to take care of her. She packed a bag with any left over food in the cottage, and said good bye to her home. Then she headed towards the woods so that no one would see her leave. Keyna walked for almost two days before she stopped to rest. Her resting spot was a half shaded tree next to the river. She splashed some water on her face and filled her bottle with water. Then she walked over and laid down on a patch of grass under the tree. As she thought about her parents she quickly fell asleep.
A few hours later Keyna felt as thought she was being watched in her sleep. She slowly opened her eyes to find a beast sitting barely a foot from her face. He was a small creature, but she wasn’t sure of his disposition. Keyna slowly reached into her bag and pulled out a piece of cheese. Just as she turned around the beast lunged at her and grabbed the cheese from her hand. After he devoured the cheese he ran to her and licked her face. This creature was not fierce he was alone and hungry.
Keyna realized this beast was a rare dog from a far away land. She promised him he would never be alone again and that he would travel with her. Now to give him a name because beast will not do. Keyna started to list a few names…Henry, Theo, Isen, and Firoth? The dog did not seem interested in any of those names. She thought about it a bit more and spoke the name Fritz. Just as she said the name the dog perked up and barked once. Keyna named the beast Fritz.
Keyna and Fritz spent the next seven years traveling from village to village. Sometimes She could work for food by singing, telling stories or painting portraits. Other times Keyna had to do some sewing or baking to earn a loaf of bread. Fritz would eat anything and could always find some sort of food if he sniffed around long enough. One traveler even gave him the name prince butterball.
I had grown accustom to calling him Fritz, the warrior pug. He likes to think that he is fierce. He stands tall and barks at all signs of danger. When Fritz is faced with the cause of that danger he cowers behind me. When the threat is over he runs out in front of me, and barks while standing tall and proud like a warrior.
Keyna and Fritz had found a village where they were comfortable. Keyna found work in a manner as a servant. She and Fritz had lodging and food. The work was not hard because only a rich older man lived in the manner. When she had finished her work for the day she and Fritz would go for picnics by the river. Keyna thought they had finally found a home.
One day soldiers raided the village. They burnt down cottages, ravaged woman and killed the lord of her manner. Keyna and Fritz had been by the river when one of the soldiers came towards them. The soldier grabbed Keyna and threw her to the ground. She was struggling and trying to get away when Fritz ran over and bit the soldier’s arm. It was just enough for her and Fritz to get away and run into the woods. The soldier followed shortly behind them. Keyna and Fritz just kept running further into the woods. After awhile they realized they were no longer being followed, but they decided to keep moving as the soldiers had horses.
They kept moving for two days when hunger and exhaustion set upon them. They came into a fog that seemed to thicken the farther they went. Fritz had fallen and appeared to be sleeping. Keyna tried to pick him up and continue walking, but she was too weak. Before long she is lying next to Fritz and struggling to breathe through the fog. She quickly falls into a deep sleep.
When Keyna awakes there is a shadowed figure in front of her. She does not recognize anything around her and inquires about her location. “Mittelmarch” is all she hears before falling back into a deep sleep.

When Keyna awakes there is a shadowed figure in front of her. She does not recognize anything around her and inquires about her location. “Mittelmarch” is all she hears before falling back into a deep sleep.
She awakens to find a man standing over her and her companion Fritz nowhere in site. She quickly asks the man where she is, where her companion is, and what his name is…Calm down the man said in a firm, but gentle voice. I am Zaron of Mittlemarch, and your warrior pug is out chasing an ogre. Why don’t I give you some time to compose yourself and I will be outside when you are ready to join all of us.
Keyna is disoriented and confused as to what has happened to her. The man seemed gentle enough, but she decides to come up with a plan to make a quick escape should she feel threatened. Keyna comes out to find there are many races residing within the land of Mittelmarch. Zaron appears to be half elf mixed with another. Fritz, the warrior pug was indeed taunting an ogre named Nichtmar. A giant by the name of OOF was tossing a goblin and using him as a toothpick in between throws. An adorable little dwarf, Baethor, was trying to argue with a peasant, Rune, who has more strength. Keyna quickly felt as ease as she realized they were all wandering souls brought to a common land.
Zaron offers to take Keyna for a walk of the land. Zaron tells Keyna the history of MM and it’s people. She can see his love and pride for this land, even though he tries to show a tough exterior presence. As they walk she see’s the respect they have for him. Keyna starts to feel safe around a man she barely knows and finds herself graciously flirting with him.
Over the next few months, Zaron and Keyna find themselves spending a lot of time together. Slowly, each of them building feelings towards the other afraid to say them as it could ruin everything. There were long silent gazes, long afternoon walks and slight brushes of their hands. While Zaron was spending all this time with Keyna, events around the land started to near and threaten the land.
Once Zaron was aware of these dangers he knew his time with Keyna would have to end for her safety and that of the Land. Zaron knew he could not help protect the land and people if he were distracted by Keyna’s presence. He sent communications to Sir Brogas of Dundland asking him to take Keyna into his Land for safety.
Zaron told Keyna he wanted to take her on a days travel to visit friends in Dundland. Once in Dundland Sir Brogas expressed need for extra helping hands and the watchful eye of a warrior pug. Keyna agreed to stay for a while if it would help the King. She didn’t realize that Zaron himself would not be staying. When Zaron announced it was time for him to leave Keyna ran to him and gave him a kiss. Zaron embraced her and confessed his love for her. He tells Keyna they will soon meet again at Ragnarok, but for now they must part.
*************
Time passes and it is now time to make the Journey to Ragnarok. Sir Brogas was to Journey with Keyna to assure her safety, but could not leave his land without a leader in these times. He appoints Anvil, The Raging Scottsmen and Thistle to take his place. Their orders are to safely get Keyna to Ragnarok and turn her over to Zaron. The journey was long, but they reached their destination by days end.
Zaron was at the gates awaiting their arrival and to see his love. He tells Keyna and her escorts he has a plan for them to wed in secret by a man named Greybeard of Aethenu. The fourth night we shall all attend Sir Raziers viking funeral. We shall all be dressed and together for the affair. Afterwards the four of us shall sneak away and meet Greybeard by the bridge at the river. Here we will find a few other friends holding candles...a symbol that their presence is friendly. Keyna agrees to keep the plan secret and to move thru the festival events as planned.
Four night later they all prepare and attend the funeral of Sir Razier. Afterwards and a bit intoxicated, Zaron, Keyna, Anvil and Thistle sneak away and jump into a carriage. Keyna is sure that if Zaron follows the path they can get away to their destination without being discovered. The road had another journey in mind for the four, but in the end they reached their destination with no harm. Zaron vowed he would always drive drunk for his love...(with a laugh).
Upon the arrival at the bridge they were welcomed by Kinsmen Wulfgar and Tatsamora Masamune. AS they prepared the laterns the rest of the guest (Andin, Sakura, Modi, Sir Richter, Kinsmen Finn, Sir Nichtmar, Rune, Bishop, Zeffer, Furey, Anvil, Thistle, Istvan, Berengaria) showed up. Greybeard appears from nowhere to take his place above Zaron and Keyna to commence the cermony. He asked all friend to gather closly with their candles and to pray for the couple. He read scripture on how marriage is a sacred but blessed affair. ZAron and Keyna repeated the vows of the church and then vows in their hearts. Then they exchanged tokens of their affection. Greybeard pronounced the couple as husband and wife and they ended with a very affectionate kiss. They asked their guests to raise their glasses and toast in love and friendship.
The two could not be any happier, but when and where they could be together still lingered in the back of their minds.

After spending a few months apart, Zaron came to visit his bride. He tells her he has found a job to the North that will allow them to settle down and blend in with a village. Keyna packs her bagsand gives warm wishes to her brothern in Dundland. She tells them they will all be missed very much, but that she needs to be with her husband.
Zaron and Keyna head out hand in hand towards the Land of the Maple.
